Review: Is the Capital One Quicksilver the best cash-back credit card for you?
There are four main types of cash-back credit cards, and the Capital One® Quicksilver® Cash Rewards Credit Card falls into the flat-rate rewards category. This means it earns the same amount of cash back — in this case, 1.5% — no matter what you buy. It also means it's one of the easiest cards to use, because you don't have to worry about keeping track of bonus earning categories.
The Capital One® Quicksilver® Cash Rewards Credit Card has a substantial welcome offer for new cardholders: Capital One Quicksilver Cash Rewards Credit Card. That's a decent deal for a card with no annual fee, and one of the many reasons the card is so popular. You'll also get a handful of travel and shopping benefits, including no foreign transaction fees on international purchases.
That said, there are other no-annual-fee cash-back cards that offer a similar intro bonus and potentially greater rewards on everyday spending, if you're willing to keep track of bonus categories. For example, the Chase Freedom Unlimited® and Chase Freedom Flex℠ earn up to 5% back in certain categories, so depending on your spending habits, one of these cards could be a better fit for you.
And if you're looking for a no-annual-fee card that has a higher rate of return on all purchases, the Citi® Double Cash Card is hard to beat. You'll effectively earn 2% back (1% when you buy, and 1% when you pay) on all purchases with no limit to what you can earn — but keep in mind, this card doesn't currently offer a welcome bonus.

If you're on the fence about the Capital One® Quicksilver® Cash Rewards Credit Card and considering other options, you should see how several different cash-back credit cards stack up in terms of benefits and rewards.
For example, the Citi® Double Cash Card offers 2% cash back on all purchases (1% when you buy, and 1% when you pay). However, there's no initial sign-up bonus, so it will take longer to rack up meaningful rewards. That said, if you want to consolidate high-interest debt, the Citi® Double Cash Card has a great 0% intro APR on balance transfers for the first 18 months (then a 13.99% - 23.99% (Variable)APR) that could save you a ton on interest charges.
The Chase Freedom Unlimited®, on the other hand, offers a welcome bonus of $200 after spending $500 in the first three months from account opening. In addition, new cardholders can earn 5% cash back (5x points) at grocery stores (excluding Target and Walmart) on up to $12,000 in spending during the first year of account opening (then 1x).
It earns 5% cash back on travel purchases made through the Chase Ultimate Rewards travel portal, 3% back on drugstores and dining, and 1.5% back on everything else with no cap. If you spend a lot on the bonus categories, you'll likely do better with the Chase Freedom Unlimited®, and it also comes with an introductory 0% APR on purchases for the first 15 months (then a 14.99%–23.74% variable APR).
It pays to compare cash-back credit cards and their rewards programs to find the right one for you. You may find you really do want to earn a flat rate of rewards, but it's also possible you'd like a card that offers even more in bonus categories.
Fees and costs
The Capital One® Quicksilver® Cash Rewards Credit Card has no annual fee and doesn't add foreign transaction fees, so it's a good pick to use for travel abroad.
